Resolving disputes

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a quicker and cheaper alternative to court to help consumers and businesses resolve their disputes.

For our online training on consumer rights, please head to our virtual learning area. Completion of the module will also place the accreditation badge onto your profile for all potential customers to see.

So what happens if a consumer requests to use ADR?

As part of the Code of Conduct that all members agree to follow when they become a member of Trading Standards Checked, our traders agree to cooperate with ADR in the event a consumer wants to resolve a dispute. This willingness to cooperate shows you are committed to giving your customers the best possible service.

As a member of the scheme, you will be entitled to a 50% discount on the KCC ADR fees associated with the claim, should it be decided in your favour.

Kent County Council accredited ADR

The Kent County Council ADR scheme is available to consumers who are in dispute with a business in relation to goods or services they have bought. A business cannot initiate the ADR process, it is up to the customer to apply for ADR and pay a fee. Working through these problems with a third party means it can reduce the stress of the situation and the need for a costly court claim.

The KCC scheme is fully accredited by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute under the Alternative Dispute Resolution for Consumer disputes (Competent Authorities and information) Regulations 2015.
